Americans during WWII: Filmmaker

Films began to teach the soldiers how to fight. They also were a source of entertainment especially after the invention of the drive ins. Propaganda was featured in films and passed on to huge audiences. Black and white was the most viewed time of movie. The jobs of film makers were affected by the war positively. The production of war films rose. Film makers produced commercials such as Uncle Sam wants you and cocoa cola. The training videos played a huge role in the war.

Life in the Depression was hard. Many more people were pushed into bankruptcy and poverty. The head of the house hold had more responsibilities to take care of. People were homeless and hungry and the government could not come up the help that was needed fast enough. People fought over barrels of garbage. Medicaid, food stamps, and unemployment checks were created in order to help the needed families. Many people felt it was their fault that they had failed; therefore, they isolated themselves inside their homes. Other people who worked, worked in lowly conditions and their wages were lowered to not enough to get by. People who did not want to earn the money assigned were replaced with people who did in order to get the job done.

Causes of Great Depression

The most major cause of the great depression was the lack of diversification. The US had only a set of major companies that basically recycled the money already in the market. Therefore, when these companies failed, others began to fail too. The people then started to lose their money and everyone was into trouble when it was all over. Most of the big companies ruled and were receiving all of the wealth so when they fell the small companies were still standing strong. If the US was diverse in its business then everything might have survived and helped each other through the Great Depression. Since all the wealthy was involved with the big companies this was where the money went and the money was gone when the businesses fell especially the monopolies businesses.

Women's Rights Reform Movement

The movement toward more freedom for women "reflected both optimistic and pessimistic views of human nature and society." The women were always optimistic and they knew their efforts were not in vain. The men who despised what the women were trying to do hoped the worst would come to them. The women had to work hard and fight for what was their's. The women wanted to step away from the housewife role but men and others alike tried to keep this from happening. It took the women 72 years to get the right to vote. The women just like the blacks were hopeless for a while but they kept trying. This reform opened many doors and enabled the women to challenge the men and show them: women were just as good as men. Men and women were doubtful that women's rights would expand. Though, the rights did expand, it took forever but people like Susan B. Anthony and Sojourner Truth made it possible. The statement is valid because we seen the hard and the soft,true sides of many indiviuals of differnet colors and races.

Cotton, Slavery, and the Old South

Slavery was a part of all aspects of life. The South needed slaves (or so they thought) in order to run their farms and make a living. Slavery, to me, did not dominate the lives of people especially women. The men who ran the farms may have had to face it every day but that is a part of the lifestye they chose. The women either sat in their rooms while the slaves did all the work or they did not have any in the house at all. Slavery did dominate or come up a lot when you discuss politics, though. A great example is the missiouri compromise. Everyone was worried whether their location would be over the other location(North & South). Both, the North and the South, wanted to have an advantage over the other. I also believe that there were no slaves in the lives of people in the intelluctual aspect. Slaves did not participate in the learning and educational scences. Slavery was everywhere but that does not mean they dominated certain aspects of life.

Common Man or King Andrew?

I believe Andrew Jackson was both, he had to please everyone and he kept changing his mind. The common man facade was taken up in order to please all the common folk and keep their votes. The King Andrew facade was to keep all his enemies at bay and to run this country with authority. He did not want all the wealthy taking over and he did not want his enemies to try to take over. I agree with Andrew the people see him the way they do because of their life and their experiences. Seely is also right when she states that Jackson abused his powers. Jackson did a lot of things in order to help the country but they also harmed us too which goes into agreement with Daniel. I believe he was the common man because he related to the people while also being their leader.
